    PRESIDENT LEOPOLD SENGHOR, ON THE SECOND DAY OF HIS TWO-DAY VISIT TO LINGUERE, IN THE CATTLE-RAISING REGION OF CENTRAL SENEGAL, PERFORMED THE OPENING CEREMONY AT A NEW RADIO RELAY STATION. THE PRESIDENT, WITH HIS WIFE, WAS MAKING HIS SECOND IT THE REGION IN RECENT MONTHS.

    THE VISITORS WERE GREETED BY MR. ALIOUNE FALL, DIRECTOR OF RADIO, WHO MADE A SPEECH OF WELCOME BEFORE THE PRESIDENT CUT THE TAPE AND BEGAN HIS TOUR OF THE STATION.

    DURING HIS VISIT TO TEM REGION, THE PRESIDENT DEVOTED MOST OF HIS ATTENTION TO DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CATTLE-RAISING WHICH IS THE PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY OF THE AREA, BUT HE DID NOT NEGLECT OTHER DEVELOPMENTS IN THE REGION, AND GAVE HIS HEARERS AN INSIGHT INTO THE COUNTRY'S LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENT.

    THE PRESIDENT PUT MUCH OF THE EMPHASIS ON YOUTH, SAYING THAT IF THE YOUNG PEOPLE AND SPECIALISED WORKERS IN THE COUNTRY SUPPORTED THE GOVERNMENT'S EFFORTS, THEN SENEGAL WOULD BE AN INDUSTRIAL NATION BY THE YEAR 2,000.
