Background: The sixth SEAP Games are now taking place in Kuala Lumpur, with the seven countries of the South-East Asian Peninsula -- SEAP -- participating.
The games opened on Saturday (December 11th) in a blaze of pageantry and colour with a parade by the 1,100 athletes and officials at the merdeka Stadium -- watched by the King of Malaysia and a capacity crowd.
The 30,000 spectators cheered as the best sportsmen and women from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Burma, the Khmer Republic, Laos and South Vietnam marched around the stadium.
After the official opening by the King, hundreds of balloons and pigeons fluttered into the air, hoisting the seven national flags into the grey sky.
It is the second time Malaysia has played host to the games -- the first in 1965. These games are the biggest-ever for SEAP with seven days of intense competition in 15 different sports.
