    THE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AT KUMASI, GHANA, OPENED ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC THIS WEEKEND (4-5 MAY) AS PART OF ITS THIRD OPEN DAY CELEBRATIONS. THE VARIOUS FACULTIES OF THE UNIVERSITY, WHICH WAS FOUNDED IN 1951, HAD PREPARED EXHIBITIONS OF THEIR CURRENT PROJECTS AND PAST ACHIEVEMENTS.

    AMONG THE MOST INTERESTING FACULTIES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WAS THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACY. IN THE LABORATORIES VISITORS WERE INVITED TO EXAMINE DIAGRAMS AND EXPERIMENTS SHOWING THE IMPORTANCE OF NATURAL PRODUCTS IN THE HEALING OF DISEASE. STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED THE PREPARATION OF ASPIRIN, AND OF VARIOUS CREAMS AND OINTMENTS. A THREE-YEAR DEGREE COURSE IS DESIGNED TO PRODUCE CHEMISTS AND GENERAL PRACTITIONERS IN PHARMACY.

    ALSO PROVIDING INSPIRATION FOR THE VISITORS, MANY OF THEM STUDENTS WHO MAY THEMSELVES HAVE OPPORTUNITY OF STUDYING THERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE, WAS A DISPLAY OF THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES IN PRINTING AND WEAVING.
