    Background: A friendly meeting of the Soviet Union the Polish People's Republic leaders was held in the Kremlin on March 4 with the participation of Soviet president Leonid Brezhnev, Yuri Andropov, Chairman of the State Security Committee, Andrei Gromyko, Foreign Minister, Mikhail Suslov, Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee, Nikolay Tikhonov, Prime Minister, Dmitry Ustinov, Minister of Depe se, Konstantin Rusachov, Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee.

    The Polish side was represented by Stanislav Kania, leader of the Polish United Workers' Party, V. Yaruzelsky, Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defense A. Zhahinsky, First Secretary of the Katovitzy, region committee, E. Voltashek, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers' Party. The Polish leaders congratulated the Soviet counterparts on the successful completion of the XXVI Congress of the CPSU. They stressed that the polish communists were proud of the achievements of the Soviet friends.

    Polish friends advised the situation in their country, spoke about the undertaken measures to prevent serious threat to the socialist gains of the Polish people. The Polish United Workers' Party and the Government of the Republic would firmly achieve a complete liquidation of anarchy and disorder, consolidation of socialist system.

    Socialist unity is inviolable, its defense - is a duty of not only every state, but the whole socialist coalition.

    The Soviet leaders declared that the USSR had rendered and would render together with the other fraternal states all necessary assistance to socialist Poland, to the polish communists in their tense struggle for basic stabilization of the situation in the country. They expressed confidence that the polish communists had possibilities and forces to turn the course of events back, to eliminate dangers to the socialist gains of the polish people.

    The participants of the meeting stated unanimously that the tense international situation, demanded even more strongly that unity and solidarity of the socialist states should be consolidated.
