    MEMBERS OF THE HAITIAN INVASION FORCE WERE REPORTED YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) TO HAVE STRAGGLED ACROSS THE BORDER INTO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC. THEY ADMITTED DEFEAT IN THEIR BID TO TOPPLE THE REGIME OF PRESIDENT FRANCOIS DUVALIER.

    THE GROUP WERE BEING HELD BY DOMINICAN BORDER GUARDS AT DAJABON. IT WAS IN THIS VICINITY THAT THE INVASION WAS MOUNTED, ACCORDING TO HAITI'S SPOKESMAN AT THE EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE ORGANISATION OF AMERICAN STATES.

    THE MEETING WAS CALLED BY HAITI IN A BID TO INDICT DOMINICA FOR ITS ROLE IN THE ABORTED INVASION. ON WEDNESDAY THE OAS ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING THERE WAS NOT SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE TO JUSTIFY THIS CHARGE.

    SPOKESMEN FOR THE ROUTED INVASION FORCE SAID THEY HAD BEEN CUT OFF FROM THE MAIN GROUP. BUT THAT THE BULK OF THEIR FELLOW SOLDIERS HAD FLED INTO THE MOUNTAINS.

    THE REPORTED INVASION DID NOT DISTURB THE SURFACE CALM OF THE HAITIAN CAPITAL, PORT-AU-PRINCE. FILM SHOWS STREET SCENES IN THE TRANQUIL CITY.
