Background: General Heinz Trettner, inspector general of the Armed Forces of West Germany, was accorded the U.S. Armed Forces Full Honor Ceremony at the Pentagon Tuesday (10 November).
General Trettner received a 19-gun salute, four renditions of the ceremonial "ruffles and flourishes" by the U.S. Army Band and the playing of "The General's March."
General Trettner's visit to Washington coincides with that of German Defense Minister Kai Uwe Von Hassel, although they arrived in the capitol separately.
After a conference among General Trettner and members of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, a communique was issued. It said special attention had been devoted during the talks to "the forward defense of NATO and the contribution of new weapons system, including the Pershing missile system, to this defense."
