    IN NAPIER, NEW ZEALAND, THE QUEEN FEBRUARY 1 PRESENTED COLOURS TO THE FIRST BATTALION OF THE HAWKES BAY REGIMENT. ABOUT 12-THOUSAND PEOPLE WATCHED THE CEREMONY. THE REGIMENT IS CELEBRATING ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY AND THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH IS ITS COLONEL-IN-CHIEF.

    THE REGIMENTAL COLOUR CARRIES BATTLE HONOURS WON IN THE BOER WAR AND TWO WORLD WARS. IT ALSO FEATURES THE REGIMENTAL MOTTO, "KIA TOA", WHICH MEANS "BE BRAVE".

    THE QUEEN WATCHED THE CHAPLAINS-GENERAL OF THE REGIMENT CONSECRATE THE NEW COLOURS. LATER, SHE TOLD THE PARADE THAT THE COLOURS SPOKE OF COUNTLESS EXAMPLES OF COURAGE ON THE BATTLEFIELD.

    THE QUEEN'S COLOUR IS PRESENTED.... AND NOW THE REGIMENTAL COLOUR. THE CEREMONY WAS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE ROYAL TOUR OF THE HAWKES BAY DISTRICT OF NEW ZEALAND.
