Turkey Monday (July 29) continued to buildup its troop forces on Cyprus despite the ceasefire. Newmen were kept away from the beach-head, about five miles (eight kms) west of the northern resort town of Kyrenia, but ships carrying men and equipment could be seen unloading. Helicopters are also flying the 40 miles (64 kms) across the strait from Turkey to support the operation.
A United Nations spokesman in Nicosia said the Turks had sent about 30-thousand men to the island since the invasion. They are being supplied continually with tanks, armoured cars and jeeps.
The buildup of men and machinery confirms Turkey's intention of retaining control of their captured territory which from a wedge along the northern coast of the island around Kyrenia south to Nicosia.
There are indications that the buildup of men and supplies has fallen off slightly in the last few days...probably as an inducement to the Geneva peace conference.
