    BRITAIN'S ANTI-APARTHEID MOVEMENT TODAY (SUNDAY) COMMEMORATED THE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHARPEVILLE SHOOTINGS.AFTER A RALLY IN LONDON'S TRAFALGAR SQUARE, DEMONSTRATORS LAID WREATHS ON THE STEPS OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY.PEOPLE ALSO SIGNED A BOOK IN PROTEST AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN GOVERNMENT'S RACIAL POLICY.

    AFRICAN STUDENTS AND WORKERS WERE AMONG THOSE WHO ATTENDED THE RALLY, HELD IN MEMORY OF THE 69 AFRICANS WHO DIED AT SHARPEVILLE IN MARCH, 1960, WHEN SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE OPENED FIRE DURING A DEMONSTRATION AGAINST PASS LAWS.

    AS STUDENTS FROM LONDON UNIVERSITY LAID WREATHS, OTHERS STOOD IN SILENCE OUTSIDE THE EMBASSY.MEANWHILE, AT A NEARBY CHURCH, PEOPLE WERE SIGNING THE BOOK, WHICH ALSO WAS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE SHARPEVILLE VICTIMS.BY THIS EVENING, MORE THAN 800 PEOPLE - INCLUDING POLITICIANS AND ACTORS - HAD SIGNED IT.THE SIGNATURES WILL BE SENT TO MR.WILSON, THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, AND THE UNITED NATIONS.
