His Excellency Mr. Ivan Vasilyevich Arkhipov, born in 1907, graduated from the Moscow Institute of Machinetool and Instrument building with a diploma in mechanical engineering in 1933.
After graduation he worked for some time at Steel plants, starting as a foreman and rising to the position of chief mechanic. From 1943 to 1951, H.E. Mr. Arkhipov held the post of Deputy Minister of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy of the USSR and Deputy Minister of Metallurgical Industry. From 1951 to 1953, he was first Deputy Minister of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy.
H.E. Mr. Arkhipov has a long record of diplomatic service. Since 195???, he has worked in the sphere of foreign economic relations, first as Councillor for Economic Affairs and there First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee of the USSR Council of Ministers for Foreign Economic Relations.
In 1974 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers.
Soviet Deputy Prime Minister Mr. I.E. ARKHIPOV, now in India to attend the inauguration of Hot Strip Mill at Bokaro Steel Plant called on India's Ministers for Industry and Steel. Both the Ministers had cardinal discussionis with the Mr. Arkhipov and acknowledged the usefulness of Soviet aid to India's industrialisation particularly in the field of steel Industry. Mr. Arkhipov will be staying on in India till May the fourth when he returns to Moscow.
