  • Description

West Germany played France to a 2-2 draw in their international football match at Paris Columbus Stadium October 26, before a 52,000-strong crowd.

The outcome: satisfaction by the Germans. Their brand-new team with young men played well. France was not so happy. Their team lacked speed at times, committed many technical errors.

Most of France's game was fought from the right wings of Deladeriere and Douis. Opposing them was a collective well-knit opposition with a solid Rahn on the right wing, a sharp attacking Cieslarozyk and a stout defending Bauer.

In the 13th minute bulldog Seeler passed skilfully to Rahn. Changing foot Rahn deceived Douis, charged straight through. Nobody could hold the tornado. At 20 metres from the left, he shot with neat precision into the right corner of the net. Goalkeeper Colonna plunged in vain.

Deladeriere in the 24th minute swooped on the ball from a free kick awarded to France, dribbled through Bauer, then Erhardt, plunged through the German defence, held on to ram a long shot. Tilkowski in goal plunged to touch the gall, dropped it, partially seized it. But the ball was already in.

    Half-time: 1-1.

Douis scored in the 69th from a penalty. The action began from Deladeriere shooting from a corner. A bunch Surged to meet the ball. Tilkowski managed to pass to centre-forward Fontaine geared at the ready. Germany's Erhardt was in the way, shoved off the ball with his hands.

In the 80th minute Germany equalised. Geiger opened the move, dribbled, collide through the defence. Abbes ran out but found himself foiled by centre Geiger for Seeler to pop the ball into the net.
