  • Description

About 1000 people demonstrating against the military regime in Greece marched through the streets of Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, to the office of the Greek Consul General today (Saturday).

The march was an orderly one, and - in the end - disappointing for the demonstrators. The Greek Consul General was not in his office to receive their petition. The Amsterdam march is the latest in a number of similar marches which have been held in European capitals since the Greek military regime seized power in a coup in Athens last month.

(The military regime has given permission to the international Red Cross to visit political detainees - said to number about 5,000. The regime announced yesterday that about 1,500 detainees had been released and the others transferred to special camps.)
