President Sadat was speaking at the start of the first session of the new egyptian cabinet he formed last Thursday (25 April) replacing the Government set up in March last year. The new cabinet was sworn in before the President and its first meeting held immediately afterwards.
President Sadat has kept the Prime Minister's post. Among the new ministers is Mr. Abdel Aziz Higazi as first vice-Premier with the power to chair cabinet sessions in the absence of Mr. Sadat. Mohammed Abdel Kader Hatem, who was deputy Premier and Minister of information, was dropped from the 36-man cabinet and appointed assistant to the President. Field Marshall Ahmed Ismail remains as War Minister while Ismail Fhami keeps the Foreign Affairs portfolio.
SYNOPSIS: There was a cabinet reshuffle in Cairo last Thursday and Monday, President Anwar Sadat was at the Abdine Palace to present outgoing ministers with the First Class Order of the Republic. The most noteworthy minister dropped was Mr. Kder Hatem, formerly Deputy Prime Minister. He was made assistant to the President.
After farewelling the outgoing ministers President Sadat presided over the swearing in of the new cabinet. Top post of Deputy Prime Minister went to Mr. Aziz Hegazi. He has also been assigned the task of reconstruction the Egyptian economy drained by wars with Israel. Doctor Aziz Kamel remains as deputy Premier and Minister of Wakfs...religous endowments. There are 36 members in the new cabinet. The new Government replaces the one set up in March last year. The war against Israel last October has forced Egypt to implement new programmes of reconstruction and Mr. Sadat picked his cabinet with this in view.
Field Marshall Ahmed Ismail retained the War Minister portfolio. His appointment indicated President Sadat's satisfaction with his key role as War Minister during the October War. As well as holding the cabinet portfolio, Marshall Ismail was promoted to Deputy Premier.
Doctor Mahmud Riad has been given the Transport and Communications porfolio.
Immediately after the swearing in, President Sadat held a cabinet meeting with his new ministers. He pledged to continue the battle against Israel until it fully withdrew from occupied Arab territories.
