The Union of Congolese Socialist Youth celebrated the eleventh anniversary of its founding on Monday (10 February). Festivities began the Friday before (7 February) with a rally in the centre of Brazzaville.

Hundreds of students and secondary schoolchildren gathered outside the Brazzaville City Buildings. They heard a speech by M. Bokamba-Yangouma, a leader of the youth group.

He told the students that as part of the anniversary celebrations the government was changing the name of all schools throughout the country.
