    A group of alleged guerrillas faced a court in Athens Greece on Monday (19 March) to face charges in connection with a series of explosions in various parts of the city.

    The Appeal Court in Athens heard charges against fourteen members of a group known as the National Restoration Organisation. They are said to be neo-fascist guerrillas, and include three Army officers and an enlisted man.

    The explosion of seventy bombs in Athens and injured thirty-seven people and caused considerable property damage.

    Strict security measures are being taken during the trial. Recent legislation in Greece includes stiff penalties for guerrilla offences, including capital punishment. The charges date back to the beginning of the year when police made a series of arrests after the explosions which were caused by home-made bombs.

    Since the blasts, the Greek government has moved to combat guerrilla activity, boosting police forces throughout the country and intensifying police patrols. The government also decided to buy new equipment for the police, including electronic units for better detection of explosive devices.
