  • Description

South Vietnam's coastal province of Quang Ngai - some 350 miles Northeast of Saigon - is the Korean Marines' "Area of Responsibility."
The Marines have been carrying out operation 'Dragon Head' for the past week in an area 10 miles north of Marines' base camp.

The Marines were flown into the area in armed helicopters which came under sporadic ground fire from Vietcong positions.

American jets bombed and strafed the area to provide cover for the helicopters bringing in the Marines. A patch of the jungle was cleared as a landing pad for the helicopters.

The fully-armed Marines moved into the jungle and found several deserted huts which they burned.

Since the start of the operation, the marines claimed to have killed 12 Vietcong, captured two and seized some weapons. The marines suffered light casualties, according to official spokesman.

The Vietcong, claimed to have fled in the path of the Marines, blew up a concrete bridge during their retreat.
