    ON THURSDAY THE GOVERNMENT SUSPENDED THE THREE NEWSPAPERS, BUT THE FOLLOWING DAY THEY PRODUCED A COMBINED "DEFIANCE EDITION" IN WHICH THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO PRESENT THE THOUGHTS OF CHAIRMAN MAO "BY ALL MEANS."
    FIVE MEN INVOLVED ARE TO APPEAR IN COURT NEXT WEEK ON CHARGES OF ALLEGED VIOLATION OF LAWS AGAINST SEDITION, INFLAMMATORY REPORTS AND SPREADING OF FALSE REPORTS.

    THE UPHEAVALS IN THE COLONY ARE ALSO BEGINNING TO AFFECT FOREIGN SHIPPING. THERE ARE STILL SHIPS FROM THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA IN HONG KONG HARBOUR, BUT THEY ARE DECREASING AS FOOD SUPPLIES FROM THE MAINLAND ARE BEING CUT OFF.

    THE DISTURBANCES BROUGHT ON BY THE CULTURAL REVOLUTION IN CHINA ARE ALSO AFFEC??? SUPPLIES FROM CANTON. THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT ??? THAT IT WOULD TRY TO PROVIDE FOODSTUFFS FOR HONG KONG ??? REPLACE THOSE TRADITIONALLY SUPPLIED BY MAINLAND CHINA.

    EARLIER THIS WEEK THE COLONY OF DIRECTOR OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, MR. T. D. SORBY, WARNED OF FOOD SHORTAGES AND HIGHER PRICES AHEAD, AND SAID THE GOVERNMENT WAS INVESTIGATING ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF SUPPLY.

    BOMBS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN SEVERAL AREAS OF THE CITY, AND BOMB DISPOSAL TEAMS HAVE BEEN KEPT BUSY.

    YESTERDAY AN UNEXPLODED BOMB WAS FOUND LYING ON ??? WINDOW LEDGE OF A BUILDING IN CENTRAL HONG KONG.

    TODAY A HOME-MADE BOMB WAS PLANTED IN THE LIFT OF THE HONG KONG HILTON. THE BOMB, IN A CIGAR TIN, WAS TAKEN OUTSIDE BY ARMY BALLISTICS EXPERTS AND DETONATED.
