    Background: In Nanterre, France, the trial has opened of five people charged both with the attempted assassination of Shapour Bakhtiar, former Iranian Prime Minister, and with the murder of three other men. It was on 18 July, 1980 in the town of Neuilly that the accused were said to have triad to kill the last Prime Minister of Iran under the late Shah. Mr. Bakhtiar escaped with his life, but three men were killed, and a fourth is paralysed for life. The trial of Anis Naccache, Fateh Chadany, Mohammed Pyouzi, Mohammed Ubeid and Salaheddine El Kaara is scheduled to last until 12 March. Heave police security outside the Nanterre courthouse showed the French government's concern at the possibility of further incidents. The Iranian government has consistently attacked France for giving refuge to its opponents, including former President Bani Sadr.
