Background: The International Gastronomic Club "Prosper Montagne" organized to-day in Ostend, the competition for the best chef-cook of the year 1958-59. The Competition is open to all professional chefs but the participants must be at least 25 years old. 23 competitors took part in this competition and the 5 finalists were designed after severe elimination tests. The theme of the competition of this year was the preparation of the warm dish of phaesant and the cold phaesant. The jury was composed of eminent international gastronomes among whom, for the first time this year, the Chinese Mr. Tsuan Fout Liou. The winner was the 31 year old Mr. Vanandruel (No 1) from Brussels. He started in the cook business when he was 19 and is now working in one of the greatest restaurants of Brussels. The points were given, of course, for the taste of the preparations, but also for their presentation.
