  • Description

VISNEWS film shows the four Foreign Minister's arrival at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, for the long plenary session June 2. Arriving with Mr. Gromyko was Dr. Bolz, the East German Foreign Minister.

Mr. Gromyko again rejected the western proposals as a basis for negotiation, and called for an ending of the occupation status of West Berlin. The Soviet Government, he said, was not asking the western powers to recognize East Germany.

Dr. Bolz luridly described West Berlin as a centre from which provocative propaganda was directed against East Germany and its neighbouring countries. His speech drew a rebuke from Mr. Herter, referring Dr. Bolz to the documents relating to the surrender of Germany.

The meeting ended with a plea from Mr. Selwyn Lloyd for a constructive approach to the problems facing the Foreign Ministers. A private meeting of the four Ministers which was to have taken place in the evening was postponed until the following day.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd, whose possible replacement as Foreign Minister was reported in "The Times", received June 1 a telegram expressing the British Premier's full confidence in him. Mr. Macmillan reaffirmed his support form Mr. Lloyd in Parliament, June 2.
