AFTER INSPECTING THE GUARD OF HONOUR THE PREMIER AND HIS WIFE WERE ENTERTAINED BY A CHILDREN'S BAND, AND A TROUPE OF CHILDREN DANCING.

IN HIS SPEECH OF WELCOME, PRESIDENT KENNETH KAUNDA SAID HE WAS PARTICULARLY PLEASED AS THIS WAS THE FIRST VISIT TO ZAMBIA BY A WEST AFRICAN HEAD OF GOVERNMENT. DR. KAUNDA VISITED GAMBIA EARLIER THIS YEAR DURING A TOUR OF SOME WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

HE PRAISED THE GAMBIAN LEADER FOR HIS FIRM STAND OVER THE SOUTHWEST AFRICAN ISSUE AT THE LONDON MEETING OF COMMONWEALTH PREMIERS IN JANUARY THIS YEAR.
