    THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER, MR HAROLD WILSON, TODAY (SUNDAY) CALLED A SPECIAL MEETING TO DISCUSS HIS REPLY TO THE RHODESIAN PRIME MINISTER, MR IAN SMITH, WHO YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) REJECTED BRITAIN'S TERMS FOR ESTABLISHING A ROYAL COMMISSION ON THE INDEPENDENCE ISSUE.

    THE BRITISH COMMONWEALTH SECRETARY, MR ARTHUR BOTTOMLEY, SAID AFTER THE 80 MINUTES MEETING THAT "THE DOOR WAS STILL OPEN". A STATEMENT ON THIS MORNING'S MEETING WOULD BE ISSUED LATER TODAY, HE SAID.

    THE MEETING, WHICH WAS ALSO ATTENDED BY LORD GARDINER, BRITAIN'S CHIEF LAW LORD, AND SIR ELWYN JONES, THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, WAS CALLED TO DISCUSS MR WILSON'S REPLY TO MR IAN SMITH. MR WILSON SPENT LAST NIGHT STUDYING MR SMITH'S MESSAGE AND AFTERWARDS HE SAID THAT HE DID NOT ACCEPT THE CLOSED THE DOOR TO NEGOTIATIONS."
    MR WILSON HAS CALLED A MEETING OF THE CABINET'S DEFENCE AND OVERSEAS POLICY COMMITTEE FOR LATER TODAY.
