Background: The holder of the World Boxing Association (WBA) junior flyweight title, Yoko Gushiken of Japan, has successfully defended his title for the tenth time. He knocked out his challenger, Tito Abella of the Philippines, in the seventh round of a match in Tokyo on Sunday (28 October).

SYNOPSIS: Gushiken -- in the white trunks -- went after Abella from the start, knocking him down for a mandatory count of eight in the closing seconds of the first round. He hit Abella with a couple of sharp punches and then decked him with a left straight.

A crowd of eleven thousand had come to see their national hero, but Abella bounced back quickly. After being knocked down by Gushiken's right hook, Abella went after the champion wildly. But he didn't do him any damage as Gushiken bobbed aside and counterpunched.

In the fifth round, Gushiken landed a couple of hard blows to Abella's head -- and then knocked him down with an uppercut.

As the seventh round opened, Gushiken rushed Abella against the rope. He attacked fiercely and Abella went face down on the canvas after a left in the jaw. He was counted out in 53 seconds.

For the 24-year-old champion it was his twentieth professional fight -- and his fourteenth knockout.
