  • Description

The Greek Cabinet, led by Premier George Papadopoulos, attended a special service in Athens Cathedral today (Sunday 3rd May) to mark the third anniversary of the country's army coup.

Before the arrival of Greek Regent, General George Zoitakis, Mr. Papadopoulos walked to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior outside Parliament Building where he laid a wreath.

The city streets were lined with troops as General Zoitakis arrived in a special motorcade in Athens' ancient Square. He was greeted by mr. Papadopulos before the two leaders entered the Cathedral to take part in a service conducted by the Primate of Greece Archbishop Ieronymos.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Papadopoulos addressed the nation in a radio broadcast which stressed that the present regime could not yield to foreign pressures for policy changes. The Greek problem, he said, would be solved by Greeks alone.
