    Communist-led insurgents have been rocketing to Khmer capital of Phnom Penh daily, ever since the offensive began on New Year's Day.

    On Sunday (March 16), government troops guarding President Lon Nol's residence evacuated their living quarters in a compound adjacent to Chamoar Mon Palace.

    The compound, which is also near to the United States Embassy, has been under constant insurgent attacks.

    At least 30 rockets struck the area over the weekend, killing more then four people and wounding at least 15 others.

    In anticipation of further attacks, to soldiers, together with their families, decided to leave the area with their belongings for safer ground on Sunday.

    Not all got out of the compound as exit gates were sealed by the palace commander shortly after the evacuation began.

    Several rockets have struck within President Lon Nol's residence. But to Khmer President is reported to have built as underground bungalow beneath the Palace.
