    President Albert-Bernard Bongo of Gabon arrived in Kinshasa on April 16 at the start of a two-day visit to the Zaire Republic. He was greeted at the airport by President Mobutu Sese Seko.

    A formation of aircraft flew overhead during the ceremonies marking President Bongo's arrival, and a guard of honour was drawn up for the occasion.

    The two leaders also witnessed a display of dancing which was performed in honour of President Bongo.

    Soon after his arrival, President Bongo said that relations between the Zaire Republic and Cabon were excellent. He said the relationship between the two countries had been cemented by the recent exchange of ambassadors. The Gabonese President said his visit was designed to add to the understanding and cooperation existing between the two countries. He also said Gabon would be building a telecommunications ground station to increase contact between the Zaire Republic and Gabon. At the moment, many communications must be sent first to Paris or Brussels.

    The two Presidents discussed commercial, cultural and technical cooperation between the two countries.

    In a communique issued on April 17, as President Bongo was returning home, it was announced that President Mobutu is to visit Gabon at the invitation of the Gabonese leader.

    SYNOPSIS: Kinshasa prepared for a special guest on April 16 as President Mobutu Sese Seko of the Zaire Republic greeted President Albert-Bernard Bongo of Gabon. The Gabonese leader was arriving for a two-day visit.

    President Bongo was visiting the Zaire Republic for talks on joint commercial, cultural and technical cooperation. He later said relations between the two countries were excellent. These relations, he said, were cemented by the recent exchange of ambassadors.

    The Gabonese President said his visit was designed to add to the understanding and cooperation existing between the two countries.

    The two Presidents walked together down a special carpet at the airport and reviewed a guard of honour during the arrival ceremony. President Bongo later said that his country would be building a telecommunications earth station to increase contact between Gabon and the Zaire Republic. At the moment, many communications must first be sent to Paris or Brussels.
