On returning home from South Africa on Sunday (21 September), Ivory Coast Information Minister, Mr. Laurent Dona-Fologo told journalists in the capital, abidjan, that he considered his visit a "great mission".
Mr. Dona-Fologo was speaking at a news conference following his arrival in Abidjan aboard a South African airlines special flight.
The Ivory Coast Minister was the first west African Cabinet member to visit South Africa... and his ten-day tour of the country is seen in the Pretoria as a major boost for South Africa's policy of detente.
Mr. Dona-Fologo described his visit as a "positive act" whose value future generations would judge. It was an act, he said, designed to avoid conflict, reduce hostility and promote contact and discussion in the search for peace in Africa. Those opposed to dialogue with South Africa were wrong, he added.
His visit, included talks with Premier John Vorster and other South African leaders and a tour of the state's black African homelands.
