  • Description

New Zealand's Rugby team, the"All Blacks" arrived at Jan Smuts Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa, May 22, to play a series of matches against the South African "Springboks" and other side.

Great crowds of rugby-enthusiasts waited at the airport, standing on the scaffolding of incomplete buildings for a better view of the arriving tourists.

Before the "All Blacks" left New Zealand there were demonstrations in Auckland and elsewhere; to comply with South African segregation laws which do not allow whites and non-whites to participate together in sport, no Maoris were included in the "All Black" team. Many New Zealanders adopted the policy - "No Maoris, No All Blacks".
