  • Description

Pakistan's President Bhutto has asked Provincial Governments to build multi storey blocks for all public buildings to save spaces, money and farm land.

The Government needs vast areas of land for its present programme of educational, medical and social welfare projects. President Bhutto thinks Provincial Governments have bought too much agricultural land in the past. It cost much money in compensation and when all the site could not be used, caused resentment among the farmers who had lost some of their fertile land for nothing.

The President has told Provincial Governments that buildings should either be demolished for the multi-storey blocks or they should be placed on barren land even if roads and facilities have to be taken to the new sites.

The Civil and Military Gazette newspaper building where the famous English poet and author Rudyard Kipling once worked is one of the buildings being knocked down.

So Kipling who wrote "East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet" has been proved wrong within half a century.
