  • Description

NINE THOUSAND workers of the "FRICORIFICO NACIONAL LISANDRO DE LA TORRE" barricaded themselves on January 14th, as a protest against a Government decision to turn the business over to a private enterprise.

We can see relatives bringing them food, so helping to maintain their position.

Later on, "The 62" - new peronist unions - called for a general strike.-
Midnight of January 18th was "Zero" hour to begin a city transport general strike; and the city began to be slowly paralysed as all vehicles, including trams belonging to the city transport organization, which were on the streets, made their way to the garages.-
Afterwards, other unions joined the strike which became almost general, paralysing all activities in the city and the country.-
The "62" said the strike was also against the government's new austerity plan.-
