Background: Various scenes in Buenos Aires before toady's Argentine elections. The package also contains 827 feet of outcuts.Ten million Argentines went to the polls today (7 July) to elect a president, Vice President and Provincial governors. The principal presidential candidates are Oscar Alende, former governor of Buenos Aires province; Dr.Arturo Illia, Governor of Cordoba province; and Pedro Aramburu, a retired general and former provisional president. There are also four minor candidates. The pre-election campaigning has been stormy. Many thousands of Peronists--presumably acting on orders from exiled dictator Juan Peron in Madrid, Spain--have indicate that they will cast blank ballots.(Argentine law requires everyone to go to the polls, but not to mark a ballot) The Peronists hope to gain a smashing propaganda triumph should the number of blank ballots exceed ballots cast for any candidate. Some seventy thousand troops were ordered to stand by to keep order during the balloting.
