Background: It's happened and it's only in cold, grey London that it could happen. There's been a tearless beauty competition. Twenty of the world's most acceptable young ladies paraded at the London Lyceum Ballroom for the illustrious title of "Miss World". When Miss South Africa, eighteen year old Penelope Anne Coelen, was chosen as the winner even her competitors agreed that she deserved the title.
Miss France, Mlle. Claudine Oger, the youngest beauty on show, won second, and the dazzling blonde with the big build-up, publicity-wise that is, Miss Denmark, was third.
The judge included Barbara Coelen, Britain's Number One Fashion Model, and Stirling Moss, world-famous racing driver.
Miss World received GBP500 cash, a sports car, and a silver bowl and will later have a screen test. Penelope is more interested in studying languages and travelling the world than being projected on to the silver screen.
