  • Description

A sporting event of great interest was a horse race for ladies - "Derby des Dames" - held at Boisfort, Brussels, May 12, over 1 1/4 miles. Most elegantly dressed Belgium women occupied the stands to watch the eight competitors - among the best French, Dutch and Belgian lady riders - gallop off at the start of the race.

In the lead at the beginning was Mlle.Maurus of Belgium riding "Chalons", closely followed by the French horse "Harvard" ridden by Mme. Chretien. Following up was Dutch rider, Mme Draps on "Taj Mahal".

Leading positions did not charge again during the five laps of the race so winner was "Chalons" with "Harvard" second and "Taj Mahal" third. Thus Mile. Maurus won the GBP180 prize and a victory for Belgium.
