  • Description

The last full day of the Royal tour of Canada's Western provinces found the Queen quite recovered from the indisposition that prevented her seeing much of the Yukon Territory, ending her "whistle-stop" tour of the prairies.

In the four-days slow train journey between Edmonton and Winnipeg, she and the Duke visited no fewer than nineteen towns at which short stops were made to enable the Queen and Prince Philip to meet local residents.

The welcome at some of the smaller townships was among the warmest of any so far on the whole tour.

At Indian Head, with a normal population of one thousand, more than five thousand people cheered the Royal couple as they left for Winnipeg, where a further heavy programme awaits them.

They are to tour a hospital, attend a Luncheon and a State Dinner at Government House given by the Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba, Mr. John McDiarmid, after which they will see a performance by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.
