Background: The last of Britain's big-gun ships--the H.M.S. Belfast--was on Friday (October 15) laid to rest on the River Thames in London. Belfast--also the last British ship to fire a shot in anger, during the Korean War--is to become a floating naval museum. This film shows the H.M.S. Belfast at its final resting place near the Tower of London.

SYNOPSIS: The last big-gun ship of the British Fleet, the H.M.S. Belfast, has been towed to her final anchorage. Hundreds of curious onlookers stood along the River Thames in London on Friday to witness the event. The ship is destined to become a permanent floating naval museum on the river, near the Tower of London. The Belfast is the largest cruiser ever built for the British Navy. During World War Two, she took part in the chase for the German battleship, Bismarck. She was also pressed into service for the D-Day Normandy landings. The Belfast, which had a top speed of thirty-two knots, will now undergo remodelling, before being opened as a stationary floating naval museum.
