  • Description

The second day of the European Horse Trials championships saw Great Britain gradually improving her position after a disappointing start on Thursday.

They moved past Sweden into second place and paved the way for their ultimate victory.

Miss Sheila Wilcox, who finished second in the dressage, was runner-up again the endurance test - won by Captain O. Stephenson on Lydia.

Miss Wilcox had a refusal at a comparatively easy fence, due, she said later, to approaching at too acute an angle. Otherwise she seldom had any trouble and put up the fastest time of the day.

Mr Ted Marsh, on Wild Venture, had a brilliant cross-country run apart from jumping too big at one fence and landing against a bank. He could not get the horse going again and get over the second part.

Miss Wilcox, second again in the final day's jumping event, was one of the outstanding successes in the British team which retained the team championship for the fourth consecutive year.
