  • Description

The London Fashion Fair, staged at Earls Court in the heart of the British capital, gives designers and manufacturers form many parts of the United Kingdom the opportunity to present the 1973 Autumn Look. At Wednesday's (4 April) preview the work of more than 50 fashion houses and manufacturers was on view.

Buyers from all major overseas countries, as well as the home market, will attend the two-day event. The London Fashion Fare is sponsored jointly by the Clothing Export Council and the International Wool Secretariat.

The Autumn Look for 1973 is described as being "disciplined and restrained". Coats and suits epitomise the "English Style" using fine tweeds and worsteds. Shirt dresses feature strongly. Lightweight pure new wool in the favoured fabric for the shirt-dress, while knitwear echoes the tweed look in a variety of outer wear clothes -- many of them in machine washable wool.

Evening clothes reflects a "romantic" stylisation for some designers with soft, flowing dresses, while others hark back to the '40's with sleek, slinky fashions.

This London Fashion Fair is the third to be held and, according to the British Clothing Export Council, Mr. Peter Randle, is developing into a major event in the international fashion calendar.
