  • Description

Britain returns to Greenwich Mean Time on Sunday, after a two-year experiment with British Standard Time. GMT, the standard by which all international time zones are set, is recorded as shown in this film on the Prime Meridian at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Britain is to return to the old system of Greenwich Mean Time and British Summer Time - by which clocks go back in Winter and forward in Summer - a system which Britain out of step with Europe.

The vote to end the BST experiment (BST is one hour ahead of GMT) has taken last December, when M.P.'s decided that the public preferred the old system. It gives them earlier day-light in the mornings.
