Background: At Wimbledon June 29 VISNEWS filmed seventh day play in the Lawn Tennis Championships as A. Olmedo beat L. Ayala in the men's singles while Miss Y. Ramirez and Miss R. Reyes vanquished Miss V. Puzejova and Miss P. Ward in the women's doubles.
Top seed Olmedo, USA, Played the best lawn tennis of the day. He started his quarter final match against Chilean Ayala with a 7-5 set, volleying at terrific speed.
In the second Ayala, for a spell, was able to trick his opponent into a series of errors. A forehand pass saw his break to 2-1, an advantage he maintained until Olmedo with a double fault yielded the set 3-6.
From then on Ayala found himself chased around the court. Olmedo with lightning moves snatched game after game from him. Ayala rallied again and again, but Olmedo matched subtlety with more subtlety. With A quicker hand and a sharper eye he won the third and fourth nets evenly 6-3, 6-3.
In the third round of the women's doubles Mexicans Y. Ramirez and R. Reyes won an uneven game against Miss Puzejova, Czechoslovakia, and Miss Pat Ward in three sets of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
