    Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, the King of Jazz and one of America's greatest ambassadors of goodwill, was buried on Friday afternoon (9 July).

    Over five thousand fans stood in sweltering heat outside the tiny Corona Congregational Church in New York as disc jockey Fred Robbins, a life-long friend of Armstrong, spoke the eulogy.

    Armstrong, 71 died last Tuesday (6 July) in his home only a few hundred yards (meters) from the church after suffering from lung, heart and kidney ailments.

    SYNOPSIS: Jazz king Louis Armstrong was buried in New York on Friday. Armstrong, one of America's greatest ambassadors of goodwill, died last Tuesday after suffering from lung, heart and kidney ailments.

    Thousands of fans had earlier gathered outside the tiny Congregational church in sweltering heat to mourn the man who turned jazz into an international art form. His funeral service comprised songs and tributes from some of the world's greatest jazz singers and musicians.

    After the funeral service, some fans took flowers from the coffin....one last memento of the man who took jazz from America's deep South to the corners of the earth.
