    Background: The United Nations' 4th International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy opened in Geneva on Monday (6 Sept) with a prediction from the President...Dr. Glenn Seaborg, a leading U.S. scientist...that nuclear-propelled rockets would carry men to Mars and instruments to Jupiter this century. A former Chairman of the United States Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Seaborg also said that energy production from fusion would almost certainly be achieved by 1980. 4,000 delegates and scientists from 72 countries are attending the conference at the Palace of Nations.
    The United Nation's Fourth International "Atoms For Peace" Conference opened at the Palace of Nations in Geneva on Monday.

    At the opening session, delegates heard a prediction from the Conference Chairman Dr Glenn Seaborg, that energy production from fusion would almost certainly be achieved in the next nine or ten years. Dr. Seaborg...a leading United States scientist....was formerly Chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. He also predicted that by the end of this cent??? nuclear-propelled rockets will carry me to Mars and scientific instruments to Jupiter. He emphasised however that one the biggest remaining tasks for the nuclear power industry was the development of economic breeder reactors.
