  • Description

In San Francisco, Jan 11, Cuban Consul Rodrigo Parajon resigned from the Cuban Foreign Service because he could no longer agree with the "hate and lack of democracy in Cuba". Parajon told a press conference that he made his decision after being informed by the Cuban Embassy in Washington he must return home at once.

He told newsmen that he had no plans but intended to remain in the United States. He has already returned his passport and that of his wife to the Cuban Government. Asked if he thought his action would endanger the lives of his relatives he said no. The Consul has been out of the country for the last three years. His main concern is his own safety and the safety of his wife and their five-year-old daughter.

On Jan 3, the United States Government broke off diplomatic relations with the Cuban Government under Premier Castro.
