SYNOPSIS: Throughout Wednesday, there was a steady stream of well-wishers at the Prime Minister's residence, all paying their respects and offering their support to the new head of the government. The King had asked the Prime Minister to maintain good relations between Jordan and the other Arab states and to keep an even balance in Jordan's relations with East and West. Mr. Badran has held several cabinet posts including Minister of Education. Only two days before his appointment as Prime Minister, he accompanied King Hussein to Damascus as Chief of the Royal Cabinet.

Within hours of his appointment, Prime Minister Badran received a visit from the Commander and several top-ranking officers of the army. According to Reuter, no change is expected in Jordan's policy which is carefully guided by King Hussein. Apart from having been Minister of Education, the new Prime Minister was also Director of Intelligence and adviser to the King on national security. One of his major immediate decisions would be whether to buy anti-aircraft missiles from the United States or from the Soviet Union.
