Background: Visnews cameras filmed a demonstration at Oirschot, southern Holland on Monday, 15th June of the Dutch Army's new armoured vehicle for carrying infantry into battle, the YP-408.

Unlike the usual armoured infantry-carrier, the YP-408 is not a tracked vehicle but has eight wheels, equipped with "combat" tyres. It is claimed to be faster and more easily manoeuvred than the tracked carriers. It can cross very rough and broken ground, climb 45 degree -- slopes and pass without difficulty through water 1.20 metres (4 ft.) deep.

The YP-408 has room for 12 soldiers fully equipped for battle. They are protected by armour plate stated to be proof against rifle and machine-gun fire and shell splinters.

Weight of the vehicle is approximately 9,000 kg. (about 8.85 tons) and it is engined with a 6-cylinder petrol motor.
