Background: Sir Winston Churchill returned home today from the south of France where he had been staying in the Villa Pausa at Roquebrune.
He spent the last evening of his stay on the Riviera dining with Monsieur Coty, President of France. The President, with his daughter, Mme Georges, and the Prefect of Nice, were entertained by Sir Winston at the V illa Pausa.
Lady Churchill visited the Mayor of Roquebrune and presented him with a giant egg-shaped cake for the children of the town. She said:"Thanks to the air and climate of Roquebrune Sir Winston has made a marvellous recovery".
During his flight back to England Sir Winston Churchill played a game of patience and smoked a cigar. It was a bitterly cold day in London, and Sir Winston was muffled up when he emerged from the plane.
A crowd had gathered on the airport roof to welcome him home again. He entered a car for the drive home to Chartwell in Kent.
