THE HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE SIX COMMON MARKET COUNTRIES ARE MEETING IN ROME FOR POLITICAL TALKS ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE.

    THIS YEAR'S MEETING MARKS THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FORMATION OF THE COMMON MARKET. YESTERDAY, PRESIDENT SARAGAT OF ITALY GAVE STRONG SUPPORT FOR BRITISH MEMBERSHIP WHEN HE ADDRESSED THE DELEGATES IN A COMMEMORATIVE SPEECH. IT'S REPORTED THAT PRESIDENT DE GAULLE'S SPEECH TODAY DID NOT REJECT THE IDEA OF BRITISH MEMBERSHIP, BUT WENT NO FURTHER THAN ACCEPTING THAT THE SIX GOVERNMENTS SHOULD CONSULT AMONG THEMSELVES ABOUT BRITAIN'S APPLICATION.
