    Two integration demonstrations held 6 and 7 July in New York City.The Bronx (borough of the New York City) chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality is picketing outside four restaurants of the White Castle chain, asking 25 negroes and Puerto Ricans be hired.Violence broke out at one of the restaurants early Sunday morning, shortly after midnight.About a thousand white hecklers--mostly teenagers--jeered at the pickets and threw rocks, ketchup bottles, eggs and tomatoes.Sixty policemen were called out to quell the disturbances; two hecklers were arrested and four pickets injured.Order was restores by three a.m.; picketing continues.

    On Saturday (6 July) a negro group known as the Greater New York Coordinating Committee held a rally in Harlem (negro district of New York).About five hundred persons--all negro--attended.The rally was called in support of demands made by the group of the City government: these include the assignment of more negro policemen to Harlem, including two negro police captains; and a demand that twenty-five percent of those hired to work on City construction projects be negro.
