    IN THE FOUR YEARS IN WHICH MALAYSIA FACED INDONESIA'S POLICY OF CONFRONTATION MORE THAN 240 SHIPS CALLED AT KUCHING BRINGING IN THREE THOUSAND TROOPS AND THEIR NUMEROUS SUPPLIES.

    THE WITHDRAWAL OF BRITISH TROOPS BEGAN IN AUGUST LAST YEAR FOLLOWING THE PEACE AGREEMENT BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND INDONESIA.

    THE FAREWELL CEREMONIES INCLUDED THE PRESENTATION OF PLAQUES TO THE DIFFERENT UNITS LEAVING BY MR. L.J. MONEY, THE CHAIRMAN OF THE KUCHING PORT AUTHORITY. AND THE PRESENTATION OF A PLAQUE TO THE PORT AUTHORITIES BY THE BRITISH ARMY.

    UNITS LEAVING ABOARD THE "EMPIRE KITTIWAKE" INCLUDED DETACHMENTS FROM THE GURKHA TRANSPORT REGIMENT, THE ROYAL MILITARY POLICE, AND THE POST COMMANDMENT STAFF.
