CONTINUING THEIR DISCUSSIONS IN BRUSSELS TODAY (THURSDAY) - THE COMMON MARKET'S COUNCIL OF MINISTERS WHO ARE TACKLING THE QUESTION OF FUTURE CONTACTS WITH BRITAIN.

THE PROBLEM, WITH AGRICULTURAL POLICY FOR THE SIX, FORMS PART OF THE COMMUNITY'S "ACTION PROGRAMME," SO FAR ONLY PARTIALLY AGREED UPON.

FIVE OF THE SIX - WEST GERMANY, ITALY AND THE THREE BENELUX COUNTRIES - FAVOUR REGULAR MULTILATERAL MEETINGS BETWEEN THEIR PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES AND THE BRITISH AMBASSADOR TO THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES IN BRUSSELS.

BUT FRANCE SO FAR OPPOSES REGULAR CONTACTS OF THIS KING, ARGUING THAT THEY ARE TANTAMOUNT TO GIVING BRITAIN "A SEVENTH CHAIR" IN THE COMMON MARKET WITHOUT ACTUALLY BEING A MEMBER.

AT LAST WEEK'S MEETING BETWEEN GENERAL DE GAULLE AND DR. ADENAUER IN BONN, THE TWO STATESMEN FAILED TO REACH A COMPROMISE ON THIS.

OTHERS ATTENDING INCLUDED PROFESSOR LUDWIG ERHARD, WEST GERMAN VICE-CHANCELLOR, SIGNOR EMILION COLOMBO, ITALIAN MINISTER OF FINANCE, AND M. VALERY GISCARD DESTAING, THE FRENCH FINANCE MINISTER.
