    Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, President of the Union of Arab Emirates, arrived in Khartoum on Sunday (20 February) to begin a six-day official visit for talks with Sudanese leader President Jenfar Nimeiry on strengthening bilateral relations.

    Sheikh Zayed, who is the ruler of Abu Dhabi emirate, was greeted at the airport by President Nimeiry, the Vice-President of Sudan, members of the Government, armed forces and heads of foreign diplomatic missions.

    The Abu Dhabi ruler, who was travelling abroad for the first time as President of the newly-founded Union, is scheduled to go on to Libya and Syria for official visits after leaving Sudan.

    SYNOPSIS: Sudanese President Jaafar Nimeiry was at Khartoum airport on Sunday to meet a Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the President of the Union of Arab Emirates, who was arriving to begin a six-day official visit. President Nimeiry and Sheikh Zayed are scheduled of discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations.

    Sheikh Zayed, who was travelling abroad for the first time as President of the newly-formed Arab Union of Emirates, is the ruler of Abu Dhabi, and is later scheduled to visit Libya and Syria for talks on Arab relations. His talks are reported to be covering the Middle East situation in general and the Gulf area in Particular.

    Sheikh Zayed and President Nimeiry were scheduled to fly to Nialan in Western Sudan in a special aircraft on Monday, and the following day to Obiedn -- also in Western Sudan. On Wednesday they are reported to be flying to the Damazein area in the Blue Nile province and finally to nearby Medana on Thursday before returning to Khartoum for final talks on Friday.
